Piaculum

Well, for those curious about how this comic came to fruition, this page will explain most of my thoughts. I've had the idea for this comic since maybe the eighth or ninth grade, and I wish I would have started on it earlier.

For starters, "piaculum" means "sacrifice" in Latin. As with all manga, the meaning behind the title will be explained later on. Ahh, suspense. Ain't it wonderful?

As for the subject, I never planned on doing a religious manga of any sort, as I try to distance myself from religious affiliations. Try as I might, though, I couldn't seem to find any topic that hadn't been done before. Schoolgirls, yaoi, battles between Heaven and Earth... all overdone, and most better than what I could have imagined. Despairing, I asked a friend who creates manga often about her inspiration, and she said, "The one thing that inspires me to write is my own experience. Sure, you don't need to document all of the incident and tell the world; instead, take an event that happened in your life and use that."

Thus, Piaculum came about.

Much of Piaculum stems from a real life experience and is therefore very personal for me. Long ago, I used to be an altar server, always making it to Mass either before the priest and deacon walked down the aisle or maybe a few minutes afterwards. Despite my tardiness, though, I was said to be one of the most dependable servers that they had at the time, aside from the older, more experienced ones. Ara's character obviously comes from that. xD

Djall, the Crown Prince of Hell, comes from my image of the Devil. Many people say that Satan is a hideous demon, but how can that be, I reasoned, if being evil is so enticing? My ultimate wish is for Djall to be portrayed as someone you know you can't trust, but end up doing so because of his charisma and wonderfully good looks.

This page will be updated often as the series progresses, so I recommend checking back maybe after every chapter or so. Not that you have to, of course, but you might find out some things that you might have never known otherwise. ^^
